Ruger is a 2 yr old Blue Heeler. At the start of the fitness challenge his weight was 70 lbs. Ruger is an only dog in a household that has a working owner, therefore even though he is eating a proper diet of Hills Metabolic Support, he lays around all day. With no siblings to play with, he gets minimal exercise.
His fitness program was designed by Kerbey Johansen, DVM to get Ruger to his ideal weight to help prevent health issues from occurring due to obesity.
Ruger has been on the program for 3 weeks now. The first week was simply getting him accustomed to the Hudson Aquapacer Water Treadmill. Minimal time with Maximum water to relieve pressure from joints during exercise time. As you can see by the video clip we have attached, he loves his treadmill time!! There is always someone in the treadmill with him, which simulates an actual walk/jog with his owner.
The water is progressively lowered and the speed and time increased as Ruger's stamina increases.
