Gary Hodges, DVM
Gary received a BS & DVM at Texas A & M followed by an equine internship at the University of Georgia in 72’. He owned a private practice in San Angelo from 1973-2014. In 2015, Gary opened the Western Veterinary Hospital, PLLC. He is a founding member and on the Board of Directors of Texas Equine Veterinary Association. He was also president of the San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo 2001 & 2002. He’s been married for 40 years to Kathy, and they have one son - Slade Hodges who is an MD in Dallas, TX.

Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons (DACVS)
Dr. Bueno is a native of Brazil and he received his Veterinary Degree (MV) in 1992 from Unoeste University. He had two year’s experience in equine private practice before completing one year internship in Equine Medicine & Surgery at Louisiana State University (LSU) in 1995. Following his internship, Dr. Bueno completed a Master’s of Science (MS) degree at LSU in 1998. Additionally, he completed one year Large Animal Fellowship at Oregon State University (OSU) in 1999, and immediately after his fellowship Dr. Bueno completed a three year Equine Surgery Residency Program at University of California (UC-Davis) in 2002. Dr. Bueno returned to LSU in 2002 as Clinical Instructor in Equine Surgery. He successfully completed his specialty board certification through the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) in 2003. Following that Dr. Bueno held a Lecturer position in Large Animal Surgery at the University of Florida in Gainesville (2005-2007). Additionally, he worked as a staff surgeon at The Morrie Waud Equine Center (MWEC), an equine surgical facility associated with the University of Wisconsin (UW) from 2007-2010. Moreover, Dr. Bueno was a Staff Surgeon at South Shore Equine & Diagnostic Center, a specialty private practice, located in Massachusetts (2011-2013). Furthermore, Dr. Bueno’s was a Clinical Instructor in Equine Surgery at Washington State University (WSU), College of Veterinary Medicine in Pullman, WA (2013-2015).

Kerbey Johansen, DVM
Born and raised in Austin, Dr. Johansen went to Texas A&M where she completed a BS in Bio Med Science and then attended vet school there, graduating in 2007. Her first year out, she worked mixed animal in Temple. She then moved to the panhandle with her husband Cary of 10 years, and began practicing exclusively on dogs and cats. She has two lovely children and enjoys gardening and singing.
Tanna J. Villarreal, DVM
Tanna attended both undergraduate and veterinary school at Texas A&M University. After graduating, she practiced at a rural mixed animal clinic in Big Spring, TX and from there moved to Waxahachie, TX where she practiced at a suburban small animal clinic. Tanna especially loves diagnostic ultrasound and has pursued extra training in this area over the past two years.
She is excited to be back ‘home’ in San Angelo.
Carol H. Akers, DVM
Carol grew up on her family’s ranch northwest of Junction, TX, raising sheep, goats, beef cattle, and horses, and graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. She worked in private practice in several different states for 20 years and then completed a three-year dental residency at the University of Illinois. She loves to work on the teeth of any species except humans, and has a special interest in maxillofacial and oral surgery and in all aspects of equine dentistry, especially the oral care of geriatric horses.
